(Below, is an email announcement sent to our Wednesday Group Meeting participants.)

July 16, 2008

The topic for our July 16th meeting is “Peer Resume Review”.

Here’s how it works:

1. Bring a copy of your current resume

2. I will assign a partner for you

3. Partners will describe their job target to each other and review each other’s resume against the stated job target

4. The partners will then offer each other feedback on the resumes

 

Most candidates find this exercise VERY helpful. Please plan on attending!!

 

July 23, 2008

We will begin this meeting by celebrating a graduation--Come help us send off a much-loved member of our group.

The topic for the July 23rd meeting will be “Resume PAR Statements for Interviews”. The assignment for the July 23 meeting is to bring your resume with a PAR story for each bullet/accomplishment statement.

As homework for this meeting, script a “Problem/Action/Result” for each bullet point in your resume by describing the situation in the bullet, explaining what (exactly) you did, and explaining the result of your effort.

I find that most candidates lose opportunities by NOT being able to describe their effectiveness in an interview. This exercise will increase your ability to demonstrate your skills.

We will discuss Body Language during interviews in the July 30th meeting. Your body position and posture comprises 38% of your communication so let’s make sure you’re speaking the right language!
