EXECUTIVE COACHING
An industry coming of age

Executive coaching has exploded in recent years with American companies spending more than $1 billion annually, according to Harvard Business Review Article.  A recent survey of 328 companies found that more than half of the organizations provided coaching for managers, executives and high potential employees.

Most executive coaches are from outside the company and bring an unbiased and objective view.  They provide their clients with candid and unvarnished assessments, often based upon information from those who work closely with the individual, of their weaknesses and strengths.  These assessments are used to shape a person's interpersonal behaviors and help mesh more closely with corporate goals and values.

Coaching programs can make a significant difference in overall organizational effectiveness by improving teamwork and ability to execute strategy.  Coaching is particularly effective when it is focused on driving behavioral change rather than cultural change and when the emphasis is upon positive performance outcomes rather than remedial issues.

We will keep you abreast of Elizabeth Muellner's status as she strives to become a Certified Executive Coach.  Elizabeth currently holds her SPHR certification and will be one of the first in the area with such a certification!

MORE THAN A TEMP?

Employers are beginning to look more internally at temporary employees when vacancies open up at their companies. Temporary employees already know your company, the environment and the work since they are already on the inside and their work is already known. According to American Staffing Association (ASA), as many as 18 percent of temporary jobs annually are converted to full-time jobs at client companies and this number is growing.  Although the growth of temporary to full-time has been said to be not as quick to materialize in the early 21st century because of the jobs created by the Clinton years, the staffing industry has been characterized as a "bright spot" in the employment market.   "Temping" has been known to be one of the most productive strategies for finding a full-time job.

Temporary-to-hire is a popular way to hire new full-time employees, as well, allowing employers to evaluate new hires during the standard 90-day probationary period, while they are employed by the staffing company.  This evaluation period allows employers to have a greater success rate of all new hires before adding them on to your payroll and employee benefits plans.

Make sure to look at your temporary pool of candidates when seeking a full-time hire - they are worth the consideration!
